Warm and Welcoming in the heart of Kings Cross.
Admissions- visiting Winton
School tours (booked through the school office) are conducted by a member of the Winton team. Tours can be extremely busy before the Reception class application deadline in January; so please book early to avoid disappointment. Please leave a daytime number in case tours are cancelled or rescheduled. The tour will be of the whole school starting with Year 6 and working your way down the school finishing in the Nursery class.
Admissions (Reception class)
Applications to the Reception class are made initially to the Local Education Authority, Islington Council.
Admission to Reception has one intake- in September. Admission authorities for primary schools must provide for the admission of all children in the September following their fourth birthday. However parents can request to defer entry until the child reaches compulsory school age in that school year (the beginning of the term after their fifth birthday).
Please see Islington Council’s website to apply for a Reception place, see their Admissions Policy and read their acceptance criteria. Admissions at Islington Council
In year admission applications for Reception class are to be made via the above link or completing a form at the school office. If completing online the application will be sent to both the school and the Admissions Team. The school will reply shortly after to say whether a place is being offered or not. Schools take control of their Reception Class waiting list in the January following the September entry.
Admissions (Years 1-6)
Entry to other classes is dependent on availability of places. Go to the Islington Council In Year Admissions page to complete an application form. Applications for In Year Admission are dealt with by the School office. If your child is not given a place, you may appeal against this decision. The Headteacher will advise you how to do this. The government have made changes to the way nursery education is funded across the country. They have introduced a new 30 hours of free childcare scheme for working parents. The extended entitlement is intended to support working parents with the cost of childcare and enable them, where they wish, to return to work or to work additional hours. In short, this means that if both parents/single parents are working 16 hours or more and each earn £100,000 per annum or less, then your children are eligible for these places. All families are still eligible for 15 hours free childcare. Families that are only eligible for 15 hours childcare and would like a full time place, can pay additional charges, which are set on a sliding scale depending on your income. We have full time and part time places available in our nursery, please make enquiries at the school office.
Part time places are morning or afternoon, or a split week of two and a half days per week (either Monday, Tuesday 9am -3:30pm and Wednesday 9am to 12:00pm am or Wednesday 12:30-3:30pm, Thursday and Friday 9am – 3:30pm).
Full time places are from 9am until 3:30pm.
The government has provided an online eligibility checking tool for parents to check whether they are entitled to full time 30 hours per week free childcare or part time 15 hours per week childcare. Parents will need to use this tool to check eligibility before a place can be offered. If eligible, parents will receive a code which they bring to the school together with their National Insurance Number and child’s date of birth. We have to be able to validate a code before we can offer a funded place. Eligibility codes will need to be re-validated on a termly basis (every 3 months). It is parents’ responsibility to do this, if it is not re-validated then your child will lose their full time place and will only be given 15 hours free childcare.

Eligibility criteria: Your child may be eligible for 30 hours of free childcare if your circumstances are as follows:
We understand that the London Borough of Islington will be looking to ensure that the most vulnerable children with complex social, emotional, medical and special educational needs should have access to free full time provision, if professionals agree this to be in the best interest of the child regardless of the above criteria.
You can also pay for 15 hours of top up education in the nursery (for 3 and 4 year olds), please contact the school office for more information
